Next month, we’re opening our 29th concert season, “A Traditional Rhyme.” The first concert in this series, “Something Olde,” takes place on October 19, 2019 at 7 p.m. at Corbet Theatre.
We’ll welcome oboist Lindsey Meyers to the stage as the evening’s guest artist. Lindsey has played in a variety of musical ensembles ranging from opera orchestras to rock bands, and at notable venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York and Disney Hall in Los Angeles.
The concert will feature music of the late Renaissance and early Baroque, including works by Gabrielli and Bach. Originally written for cavernous cathedrals, this genre of music explores the sacred sounds of “antiphonal” (or “separated”) choir ensembles, which perform from different locations around the concert hall.
The evening’s performance will also include “The Gladiator March” by Sousa, a favorite composer of NWWS audiences, as well as music by Bach and Strauss. And just for kicks, we’re throwing in a little “New” music from Dvorak’s “New World Symphony.”
General admission tickets are $12 and can be purchased at the door or in advance from Book ‘n’ Brush in Chehalis. Students are free (15 and under must be accompanied by an adult). For more information, visit www.northwestwindsymphony.org/tickets.
